Movement-focused strength training during rehabilitation

Meet Yuji Kitano

Yuji Kitano is a physiotherapist providing English-speaking strength and movement coaching for beginners, active adults, expats, and individuals wanting to improve long-term physical health in Tokyo and Yokohama.

With a background in physiotherapy and movement-based rehabilitation, coaching sessions combine exercise, movement coaching, and strength training with an understanding of pain, injury management, physical limitations, and long-term health.

Unlike general fitness training, sessions are designed for real people with real physical concerns — including pain, stiffness, deconditioning, lack of exercise experience, fear of movement, or health-related movement challenges.

Many clients are starting exercise for the first time in years, returning after injury, or simply wanting support to become healthier and more physically capable in daily life.

Yuji provides English-speaking physiotherapy for:

  • expats

  • international professionals

  • military personnel

  • travelers

  • Elite athletes

  • Initial Consultation, Assessment, Treatment, and Exercise Prescription

The first 15–20 minute session focuses on identifying the root cause of your condition. We will also discuss your prognosis—how long recovery may take and what to expect throughout the process.

If we suspect an underlying medical condition or believe that hospital-based care is more appropriate, we will not proceed with treatment and will refer you to the relevant medical professional. In such cases, only the consultation and assessment fee of ¥3,500 (tax included) will apply.

    Physiotherapy Treatment and Exercise Prescription

Following the initial assessment, the 40–50 minute treatment session includes:

    • Targeted hands-on treatment

    • A customised exercise program to support your recovery

    • A clear treatment roadmap to help you achieve long-term results

This approach ensures you receive a comprehensive, individualised care plan tailored to your condition and recovery goals.

  • Yes. Pain and movement problems are often more complex than simply treating one body part.

Sometimes people have already received treatment focused only on the painful area, without looking at how the entire body moves together during daily activities, work, exercise, walking, running, or sport.

The body is constantly adapting to forces, movement demands, previous injuries, stress, and lifestyle. If certain movements, loads, or environments continue to overload the system, symptoms may continue to return even after temporary relief.

At Yokohama Physio, treatment focuses on understanding how the body moves as a whole and helping individuals improve movement options, strength, adaptability, and confidence through individualized rehabilitation and exercise.
